Tragic Head-On Crash Occurs on Hwy 16 in Scooba, Mississippi, Near Alabama State Line

SCOOBA, MS. – According to a news report posted online at wvtm13.com, a tragic head-on vehicle crash occurred on Mississippi Highway 16 outside of Scooba, Mississippi, which is close to the Alabama state line. The report says that eight people riding in one of the vehicles were tragically killed in the accident.

The crash happened during the early morning hours, when nine people were riding in a passenger van on their way to work at a job trimming trees in Monroeville, Alabama. At some point along the highway, around 3:30 a.m., the van crashed head-on into a box truck that had been traveling in the other direction.

WVTM 13 reports that the eight passengers in the van were tragically killed. Four of the victims from the van were reportedly brothers, and all of the van’s occupants were from Macon, Mississippi. The driver of the van survived the accident, according to the report, as did the driver of the box truck. No information about the box truck driver was included in the report.

The circumstances of the accident are not yet clear. The driver of the van told reporters that it took place on a curve in the highway by a bridge. He said he was in his lane of travel when the crash happened. The van driver also said he tried to swerve out of the way but could not avoid the crash. This information was not confirmed by authorities.

Mississippi Highway Patrol is still in the process of investigating the collision. Troopers were not said to have reported any information about the cause of the accident or the events potentially leading to the crash.
